A sniff of hermosa Madrid

I love this city. I could easily move here, the vibe is just fantastic. Granted, it is sweltering at the moment, but with so many cool cafés, tabernas and even hotter churrerias to stop by in, who cares. After barely 3 hours of sleep getting the bags and the house packed up – this time for real – we arrived in Madrid in the early afternoon. We found a great apartment with 3 bedrooms in a very non-touristy area where we could indulge in a delicious gazpacho before heading off to keep our feet in training by walking across the city from left to right, chasing the kids up and down El Retiro and finishing the day at Casa González with a lovely “selección de queso”. Today we had to introduce the children to the typical Madrileño breakfast which our chocolate crazy boys, understandably, went bonkers over. (Really fabulous place run by very friendly young brothers: Churreria Mayoma.) This was followed by a heated round of “Vulcano” (a card game invented by the kids which warrants a dedicated post. Or possibly IP protection. It’s much funner than UNO 😝) and a super lovely afternoon at our friends’ house where the kids made new friends and the adults had a great time and a good catch-up (thank you, Anna & Olivier!!)

Tomorrow morning we head on to San José – 11 hours daytime flight, wish us luck. Especially for the other passengers, since Thierry and I have started to develop a certain resilience. Which reminds me that I need to upload Minecraft. Buenas noches!
