Amazing Antigua

Antigua is such a pretty, charming place that we felt it deserves its own little post. Everyone raves about this town, and we know why. It is super pretty with lovely architecture wherever your eye takes you, charming interior designs that are often very creative, usually colourful and always tasteful and we had really great food (and you know how important that is to us!)

Our first night we stayed in a little B&B that had great reviews and was indeed very funky but its rooms were so tiny and dark that I felt borderline claustrophobic (didn’t know I had that problem, guess I have maternal genetics to thank for!)  so we switched the next day for a hostel that had a family room and it was really nicely and cleverly designed. We originally wondered if 4 days “just” in town without frankly much to see and do wouldn’t be overkill but in the end the days flew by as we sauntered between lovely cafés, spent great time doing some school work in the lovely courtyard of the hostel and sipping hot chocolate Mayan style (i.e with water, not milk. Which – if you’ve read our Xocolatl post you will already know this – apparently preserves the great anti-oxidant qualities of the cacao while milk will only counteract them).
We loved the fact that the Eco-filtro was available and in use across the town and that overall there was a vibe of healthy conscience for the body and the environment. Apparently, Antigua is known for its great Spanish schools – I might add that to my birthday wishlist when I turn 50 😉

So yes, Antigua really is as fabulous as everyone says, and then some more!
